If you want to get started and land your first paid jobs, follow these steps:
- Learn the social formats: Make sure you understand how TikToks, Reels and YouTube Shorts work. Learn what a good 'hook' is (the first 3 seconds that grab attention) and how to make a clear call-to-action (CTA).
- Build a portfolio (even without clients): Brands want to see what you can do. Grab products you already own (your favourite skincare, sneakers or coffee machine) and make 3 to 5 great videos with them. Think an unboxing, a review and a 'how-to' video.
- Set up a portfolio website: Collect your videos on a simple, free website (such as Canva or Linktree). Briefly state who you are, which niches you enjoy (for example beauty, tech or food) and how brands can contact you.
- Sign up on platforms: This is the fastest route to your first jobs. Sign up on creator platforms (such as Influentials) where brands are looking for UGC makers every day. Here you can pitch directly on open campaigns.
In short: phone at the ready, just start filming and show brands what great content you can make for them!
